- Interview with HellNegative -

Q: What is your hometown and favorite venue to play?
A: This is a tough question. I consider both Las Vegas, Nevada and Hillsboro, Ohio my home towns. To nail down just one venue is almost impossible. My most memorable in Vegas was Area 170 (RIP). For Ohio venues, I haven’t been back long enough to have a favorite.

Q: Which musical artists inspired you to begin producing?
A: It actually wasn’t a musical artist. My brother was involved in the rave scene when I was but a wee lad. It was really the culture and art that drew me into the music. When I started producing, I had no clue who was who.

Q: How did you begin producing electronic music?
A: I started playing around with Samplitude when I was ten. That lead to eventually getting Orion Platinum (mostly to play with the 909). It wasn’t until the Korg Electribes came out that things got serious. It was really the hands on feel of the units that made me realize that making music was something I wanted to stick with forever.

Q: How would you describe your sound to (i) someone familiar with electronic music and (ii) someone unfamiliar with electronic music?
A: For someone familiar with electronic music, I really just try to make music from the heart. Every piece is an expression and that’s why my style has been so broad over the years. There is a strong influence from the Hardcore and US Hard House styles of electronic music. For someone unfamiliar, the style of music that I produce and play has a long history in broken beats. It stems greatly from hip hop culture. The sound is mostly comprised of kick drums and snares travelling at 175 beats per minute backed by heavy basslines and rhythmic leads.

Q: Which events or releases are you planning in the future?
A: My next release will be coming out in January and will be vinyl only. It has been a long time since the dark side has come out and Monstruos Malvados is a return to the high energy, evil, horror style of Jump Up.
